Business Standard - After having introduced crop insurance, the Central government is planning a universal livestock insurance scheme covering all kinds of indigenous and cross bred cattle and, maybe, yaks and mithuns too. Read more
As per sources, the cattle insurance scheme is likely to be formalised on the basis of Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana (PMFBY).
The outline of this scheme is anticipated to be released in the upcoming budget of this year, but it is yet to be declared separately.
Under the Cattle Insurance Scheme, the beneficiaries supposedly had to pay very less premium, just like PMFBY. Moreover, the state and central government can also subsidise this premium.
This scheme, if introduced, will prove to be very favourable for all the cattlemen in the country because they have suffered a lot because of the lumpy skin disease as well as other diseases as it has caused a lot of harm to their cattle. This scheme is likely to work in accordance with the proposal of 'Gau Sanrakshan'.
This scheme is predicted to include all the crossbreeds as well as the indigenous breeds of livestock. Even Yaks and Mithuns are also included in this scheme.
