Changing Geopolitics for India, to impact India's Economy

14 May 2024 Zinkpot 324
India is experiencing fast changing geopolitics which may bring its benefits and issues before the country.

USA has been describing India as one of the most important partners till 2023 but with the beginning of 2024 things have changed dramatically.

First, USA urged Canada to investigate the alleged role of India in the murder of Khalistan Separatist Hardeep singh nijjar and it shields Khalistani separatist Gurpatwant singh Pannu who is an US citizen, also holding citizenship of Canada. USA has also accused India of plotting an attempt to murder this man and USA has not provided any credible evidence for this claim.

Second, the Quad summit which was to be held earlier this year was postponed and a new SQUAD seems to have formed with USA-Australia-Japan-Philippines, replacing India!

Third, Under USA’s pressure, even Australia is accusing India of spying which is largely baseless. With USA and Australia drifting, India is losing strength in Indo Pacific.

India-USA relations got strengthened due to rise of China but India’s proximity to Russia is affecting the strength of this relation.

Russia has come in full support of India and has accused USA for trying to interfere with India’s Lok Sabha elections.

Among all these events a new development has come which is the strengthening of India Iran relations which could not be nurtured due to US objections since 2003 and particularly after 2017.

Yesterday India and Iran signed a 10-year agreement on the operation of Chahbahar port of Iran which is crucial to India for many reasons such as reaching out to central Asian countries and even Russia.

Immediately US warned India of consequences but India won’t bother this time. The times are gone when USA could bully India and got it demands met.

China remains a concern for which USA is helpful but USA can’t accuse India unscrupulously and continue to have strong relations at the same time.

Russia, China, and Iran form the axis towards which India seems to be inclined as of now. India would benefit from cheap Russian and Iranian oil due to declining imports bill.
