As the Diwali season gathers steam in the country, the stock exchanges BSE and NSE will remain shut on November 14th for Diwali Balipratipada.
While the market will be shut for normal trading to mark Diwali, the stock exchanges BSE and NSE will conduct the once-in-a-year Diwali Muhurat trading on Sunday from 6:15 to 7:15 PM to mark the beginning of the Hindu calendar year Samvat 2080, which is about 56-57 years ahead of the Gregorian calendar.
The Lakshmi Pujan will be held between 3:00 PM and 4:00 PM at the exchange which will be followed by an award distribution ceremony for top-volume performers from 4:30 PM to 5:50 PM.
This is an age-old tradition of the Indian Stock Exchange to conduct a special one-hour session whose timings are decided based on planetary position, as it is considered auspicious to start a new business activity in the light of diyas.
History suggests that the day hardly disappoints the investors with the BSE Sensex closing higher in 12 of the last 16 such special sessions. Many traders believe that gains made this session bring prosperity and wealth during the course of the year ahead.
