Malaysia's egg shortage sets Indian hatcheries on path to record exports

  • India is ranked amongst the largest egg producing countries. The country is the 17th largest egg exporter country in the world with some of the best egg exporters. Owing to the increasing demand for the eggs, today there are several egg exporters in India.
  • While poultry is the fastest growing sector of agriculture in India, the egg exporting business has become a booming industry. The production of eggs has seen a surge of 8% annually. India is known for the production of fresh, preserved and cooked eggs.

  • The first egg-producing states of India are Tamil Nadu, Maharashtra, Kerala, Chhattisgarh, West Bengal, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka and Delhi. Tamil Nadu is the biggest egg exporter state of India as more than half of the eggs are exported from here.

    • Naushie Exports - Established in 1998, it is the leading name in the egg export business. This company is known for the supplier of high quality eggs. Naushie exports pack the eggs in multi colour cartons with a waterproof coating to maintain their freshness. Annually, the company is known to export around 472,320 eggs per month. The primary export destinations of the company are UK, China, Gulf countries, Indonesia, CIS, Malaysia and USA.
    •  Alibaba Exports -  It is an ISO certified company that is popular for shipping of high grade X. With years of experience in the field, the company has successfully established and identity in the global and international market. Over the years, the company has garnered much claim for the premium quality of its eggs. The company initially starting with the export of bread ovens, but later on venture into the trading of eggs. White eggs, brown eggs, table eggs, ready to eat eggs and home use egg incubators are some of the products it trades in.
    •  VKS Farms -  Founded in 2002, VKS Farms have become the largest exporter of chicken eggs from India. The company holds 70% of the market share in the egg export business of India. VKS Farms is known to export fresh farm eggs in the Middle East, Africa and Asia. The company has an in-house infrastructure for the export business. It produces paper cartons and moulded paper pulp trays in which they export the eggs.
    • Jamal food exports - Jamal food exports overtime have emerged as a well known firm for egg exporter in India. The company has earned a reputation of exporting high-quality eggs. It annually export around 1 million tonnes of eggs across the globe. The eggs exported by the company are in line with the international standards. The company works with the vision of exporting high quality eggs that provide customer satisfaction in the market. The ISO certified company is known for the export of eggs in the Middle East and European countries. Table eggs, white shell eggs, brown eggs, hatching eggs are some of the eggs it trades in.
  • Middle Eastern countries, including Oman and Qatar are the main buyers of eggs from India, but over the past few months, Indian hatcheries have received large orders from surprising quarters as output fell in some of the world's top supplies. The biggest such unexpected order came from Malaysia, which used to export eggs to Singapore and other Asian countries.
  • India shipped 5 million eggs to Malaysia in December, and will ship 10 million in January and up to 15 million in February.
  • The outbreak of highly pathogenic avian influenza, commonly called bird flu, has curtailed supplies of eggs and chicken in many countries around the globe, pressuring already high food prices and triggering trade restrictions from countries that import poultry.
