Business Standard - After a record budget reallocation, the Ministry of Railways has plans to acquire new rolling stock worth over ₹1.87 trillion in the upcoming financial year, according to the national transporter's annual rolling stock programme for 2023-24. Vande Bharat Express is also known as Train 18, which is an indigenously designed train. No doubt it is a unique train that has marked a new era in travel technology for Indian Railways.
Train 18 or Vande Bharat Express is the India's first engineless train. Before that, trains of India have had a separate engine coach while Train 18 has integrated engine like Bullet or Metro Train.
The train has 16 fully air conditioned chair car coaches with two seating options - Economy and Executive class. Amazing feature is that the executive class have revolving chair which can turn 180 degrees. Also, one of the most important facilities provided in Vande Bharat Express is the automatic doors with sliding footsteps, which are centralised control like Metro trains.
It is capable of running at the speed of 160-180 kilometre per hour faster than the Shatabdi Express.
To solve the problem of the sanitation in the train that usually people faces, bio-vacuum toilets are used for both Indian and Western style washrooms. It will provide zero discharge as we see in the aeroplanes. Also, touch free bathroom fittings are provided to allow users to experience sanitation without worry.
In line with Prime Minister Narendra Modi's vision of 'Make in India', Vande Bharat Express was launched in 2019. These ultra modern trains equipped with a train collision avoidance system - KAVACH and Wi-FI services on demand, are one of the best examples of 'Make in India' success stories.
Vande Bharat trains have already been running between Delhi-Varanasi, Delhi-Shri Vaishno Devi Mata Katra, Gandhinagar-Mumbai, New Delhi-Amb Andaura, Chennai-Mysuru and Nagpur-Bilaspur.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi flagged off 2 new Vande Bharat Express trains from Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj Terminus in Mumbai today. The new upgraded Vande Bharat Express Trains 2.0 will run between Mumbai and Solapur and Mumbai and Sainagar Shirdi, which will be the gateway of the Deccan Plateau.
