  2. NAFED: NAFED, established in 1958, is an apex organization of marketing cooperatives for agricultural produce in India. Its main functions and objectives include:
    • Organizing and promoting the marketing, processing, and storage of agricultural, horticultural, and forest produce;
    • Distributing agricultural machinery and inputs;
    • Engaging in inter-state and international trade;
    • Providing technical advice for agricultural production and cooperative marketing;
    • Organizing consultancy work for the benefit of allied institutions under NAFED;
    • Undertaking marketing research and disseminating market intelligence;
    • Implementing price stabilization measures under the Operation Greens scheme.
  3. NAFED works in tandem with the Food Corporation of India (FCI) in purchasing pulses under the Price Support Scheme (PSS), which is a part of the PM-AASHA scheme.
  4. NCCF: Established in 1965, NCCF is the apex body of consumer cooperatives in India. Its main functions and objectives include:
    • Providing supply support to consumer cooperatives and other distributing agencies for the distribution of commodities;
    • Organizing and promoting the marketing, processing, and storage of agricultural products;
    • Distributing agricultural machinery and inputs;
    • Engaging in inter-state and international trade;
    • Providing technical advice for agricultural production and cooperative marketing.
  5. Both NAFED and NCCF play crucial roles in the Indian agricultural sector, working together to ensure the smooth marketing of agricultural produce and the provision of essential services to farmers and consumers.
  6. In a significant stride towards empowering the pulse-growing farmers, Minister of Cooperation Amit Shah is set to inaugurate a pioneering portal for the registration, purchase, and payment of tur-producing farmers across India in New Delhi today.
  7. At the core of this farmer-centric initiative is the goal to empower tur dal producers, ensuring they receive fair prices through an efficient procurement system, streamlined processes, and direct bank transfers facilitated by the National Agricultural Cooperative Marketing Federation of India (NAFED) and the National Cooperative Consumers’ Federation of India (NCCF).
