India is largely dependent on crude oil imports for it’s energy needs. So which are the top 5 sources of India?
First is Russia, accounting for more than 30% of its imports in the year 2023 of amount 3.92 billion dollars, and will likely remain so through early 2024 despite the crisis In the Red Sea.
Second is Iraq which supplied $2.54 billion worth of the commodity, 5% higher year-on-year.
Third is Saudi Arabia. Supplies from Saudi Arabia fell 31.3% on year to $1.55 billion.
Fourth rank goes to the United Arab Emirates (UAE) with $980.24 million and the fifth rank goes to the US at $107.49 million, respectively.
The supplies from UAE saw a 6.70% rise where as oil supplies from the US to India declined by about 91%, falling to $107.49 million.
Prior to the Ukraine conflict, in fiscal year 2021-22, Russian oil accounted for only 2% of India’s total oil imports, with Iraq being the top supplier, followed by Saudi Arabia and the UAE.
