How much big is Lenskart?

You would be familiar with Eyewear brand Lenskart. The company was founded in 2010 by Peyush Bansal and his friends Amit Chaudhary and Sumeet Kapahi with the aim of revolutionizing the eyewear industry by providing customers with high-quality, affordable eyewear.

 

Since it was founded it has received numerous investments. In 2011, IDG Ventures India invested $4 million in the company. In January 2015, the company raised ₹135 crore from venture capitalist companies like TPG Growth, TR Capital and IDG Ventures India.

 

In 2016, International Finance Corporation, Adveq Management, TPG Growth and IDG Ventures India invested a total of $60 million in Lenskart. The company also saw investments from Ratan Tata and Kris Gopalakrishnan.

 

In March 2018, Wipro’s Chairman Azim Premji invested ₹4 crore in the group which took the valuation of the company to ₹3,000 crore. The company reached a valuation of $1 billion in December 2019 after SoftBank invested around $275 million.

 

In March 2023, the Abu Dhabi Investment Authority invested $500 million in Lenskart making it at a valuation of $4.5 billion. In June 2023, the company raised $100 million from ChrysCapital.

 

Lenskart has raised over $1.6 billion to date and was last valued at $4.5 billion in its last fundraise of $100 million in June last year.

 

As per recent media reports, Lenskart may raise $200 million more from Temasek and Fidelity through a secondary round that will push its valuation to $5 billion.

 

The company is looking to acquire land near Bengaluru airport to set up a mega factory to expand it's operations which would further add to it’s valuation.

 

As far as it’s revenue is concerned, Lenskart’s revenue from operations soared to Rs 3,788 crore with a profit of 260 crores in FY 2022-23 from revenue of Rs 1,502 crore and loss of 100 crores in FY 2021-22.

 

As per the reports, Lenskart is estimated to have closed FY 2023-24 with a revenue of Rs 5,500 crore.

 

Lenskart primarily generated revenue from the sale of eyewear and its collections from India formed 59% of its total revenue. The remaining income was derived from international operations in countries such as Singapore, Dubai, the US, and Southeast Asia.
