  1. The PM SHRI (Prime Minister's Schools for Rising India) scheme is a centrally sponsored initiative by the Government of India, aimed at establishing over 14,500 PM SHRI Schools across the country. 
  2. The objective of the scheme is to create an inclusive and welcoming atmosphere for every student, ensuring their well-being and providing a secure and enriching learning environment. 
  3. The PM SHRI Schools will be overseen by the Central Government, State/UT Governments, local bodies, Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan (KVS), and Navodaya Vidyalaya Samiti (NVS)
  4. The PM SHRI (Prime Minister's Schools for Rising India) scheme aims to provide several benefits for students, including:
    • High-Quality Education: The scheme is designed to provide high-quality education in an equitable, inclusive, and joyful school environment, taking care of the diverse backgrounds, multilingual needs, and different academic abilities of children.
    • Inclusive and Welcoming Atmosphere: PM SHRI Schools aim to create an inclusive and welcoming atmosphere for every student, ensuring their well-being and providing a secure and enriching learning environment.
    • Diverse Learning Experiences: The schools seek to offer a diverse range of learning experiences, nurturing students to become engaged, productive, and contributing citizens, in line with the vision of the National Education Policy 2020.
    • Holistic Development: The pedagogy adopted in these schools focuses on enhancing cognitive development and creating a holistic learning experience, including experiential, holistic, and integrated teaching methods.
    • State-of-the-Art Infrastructure: PM SHRI Schools will be developed as green schools with state-of-the-art infrastructure, including solar panels, LED lighting, nutrition gardens, and water management systems.
    • Mentorship and Exemplar Schools: These schools will also act as exemplar schools and offer mentorship to other schools in their vicinity, further enhancing the learning experience for students.
  5. The PM SHRI scheme is expected to benefit over 18 lakh students directly, with additional impact generated through the mentoring and handholding of schools in their vicinity.
  6. The PM SHRI scheme is part of the National Education Policy 2020, which strives to build a society characterized by equity, inclusivity, and pluralism.
  7. The scheme aims to provide high-quality education in an equitable, inclusive, and joyful school environment, taking care of the diverse backgrounds, multilingual needs, and different academic abilities of children.
  8. The first phase involves the selection of 6,207 schools from 27 states/UTs along with KVS/NVS. The scheme is proposed to be implemented over five years from 2022-23 to 2026-2027, with a total expenditure of Rs. 27,360 crores, including a central share of Rs. 18,128 crores.
