Rashtriya Vayoshri Yojana (RVY) is a scheme aimed at providing Physical Aids and Assisted-living Devices to senior citizens who belong to the below-poverty line (BPL) category.
This centrally funded scheme is fully supported by the Central Government and is implemented through the Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation (ALIMCO), a public sector undertaking under the Ministry of Social Justice and Empowerment.
The scheme ensures that eligible senior citizens aged 60 years and above receive essential assisted living aids and physical devices necessary for their well-being.
Key features of the Rashtriya Vayoshri Yojana (RVY):
Free Distribution of Devices: Physical aids, equipment, and assisted living devices are distributed free of cost to eligible senior citizens. The distribution is commensurate with the extent of disability or infirmity manifested among the beneficiaries.
Multiple Disabilities Considered: In case a person has multiple disabilities or infirmities, more than one device is provided to the beneficiary. Assistive devices are given in respect of each disability or impairment.
Maintenance Support: The Artificial Limbs Manufacturing Corporation (ALIMCO) provides free maintenance of physical aids and assisted-living equipment for one year.
Beneficiary Identification: Beneficiaries in each district are identified by State Governments/UT Administrations through a committee chaired by the Deputy Commissioner/District Collector. As far as possible, 30% of the beneficiaries in each district are women.

Currently, 325 districts have been selected for implementing the Rashtriya Vayoshri Yojana, with assessment camps completed in 135 districts, benefiting 70,939 senior citizens from the BPL category.
Eligibility: The assisted living devices under the RVY scheme are provided to the persons who fulfill all the conditions provided below:
Senior citizens, i.e. persons more than 60 years.
Belonging to the BPL category.
Having a monthly income/pension of less than Rs.15,000.
Suffering from age-related disability or infirmity, such as low vision, loss of teeth, hearing impairment, and locomotor disability.
The eligible beneficiaries under this scheme are selected from the registered applicants on the ‘ALIMCO Mitra' application. The ALIMCO identifies beneficiaries through the assessment camps organized in collaboration with the district administration or state government.
The identified beneficiaries are given the assisted-living devices in the camp mode, i.e. the devices are distributed in the distribution camps organized in the selected districts. Assisted living devices are provided at the doorsteps of senior citizens aged 80 years or more.
