  • Sosyo is an Indian aerated drink produced and marketed mainly in the western and northern states of India - Gujarat, Maharashtra, Rajasthan, Uttar Pradesh and Madhya Pradesh. It is based in Surat.
  • Sosyo is a product of the Swadeshi movement of Indian independence struggle. Mohsin Hajoori introduced Sosyo in 1927 in Surat as an Indian option to the UK drink Vimto. Presently, the company's operated by Abbas Hajoori and his son Aliasgar Hajoori.
  • Originally, Sosyo was Socio. The name was derived from the Latin word 'Socious', since it became a social drink. Sosyo is a mixture of grape and apple cider, with some ingredients imported from Germany and Italy.
  • As the original name was Socio it got replaced by Sosyo because the management noticed that the locals had a unique way of pronouncing the drink's name. They called it 'Sosy'o due to their local dialect and diction. The company decided to recognise and honour the prevalent use of nomenclature and took the decision of renaming itself as Sosyo in 1953.
  • Sosyo Hajoori Beverages Pvt Ltd (SHBPL) has several beverage brands in its portfolio, including Sosyo, Kashmira, Lemee, Ginlim, Runner, Opener, Hajoori Soda and S'eau. The company has launched over 100 flavours with its expertise in developing formulations and has a customer base in Gujarat.
  • SHBPL has 18 manufacturing units across India with distribution spread across the state and also neighbouring states through its franchises and distributor network. It has 16 franchise outlets spread across the country. The company also exports to overseas markets, including the United States, UK, Canada, New Zealand, Australia, UAE and others.
  • " With a market share of nearly 29% in Gujarat alone, we sell around 20 lakh crates per annum all over the world. Our group services over 95,000 outlets all over India," the company stated. The compan's authorised capital stands at ₹100 lakhs.
  • Recently, Reliance Consumer Products (RCP), the FMCG arm of Reliance Retail Ventures (RRV), has announced that it will acquire 50% stake in Gujarat based Sosyo Hajoori Beverages, the owner of soft drink brand Sosyo.
